Gulf Coast Kid’s House and Leadership Pensacola (LeaP) Class of 2019 Launch New Program to End Child Abuse Epidemic in Escambia County

Safe Kid Zone Program to Educate Masses

Child abuse, in the form of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and neglect is rampant with over 5,000 cases reported in 2018 in Escambia County alone. Gulf Coast Kid’s House (GCKH), in partnership with the Leadership Pensacola (LeaP) Class of 2019, a program of the Greater Pensacola Chamber Foundation, today announced the launch of a critical effort to help every adult resident Recognize, Report and Reduce the Opportunity for Child Abuse in Escambia County, Florida.

The Safe Kid Zone Program is an initiative to help end this epidemic through an internet-based training course designed to educate adults on how to recognize the signs associated with many types of child abuse, how to report abuse even if it is just suspected, and ways to reduce the opportunity for child abuse to occur in the future. The program goes live on 5/1/2019.

GCKH and the LeaP class of 2019 have an ambitious goal of increasing awareness for the signs of child abuse by reaching 10% of the community through this new initiative. Help achieve this goal by participating in the Safe Kid Zone program.

Organizations also can become Certified Safe Kid Zones by having employees complete this self-led, 30-minute online course – outwardly reflecting their commitment to help eradicate child abuse of all forms from the county. If you company or organization is interested in participating, please contact GCKH at 850-595-5800.

Thanks to the generous contributions of many organizations in the community, this program is available at no cost to anyone who wishes to participate and help achieve this very worthy goal.

We all share a responsibility to protect our most precious and vulnerable young people. In fact, Florida law requires all adults age 18 and older to report any suspected child abuse by calling 1-800-96ABUSE.

Please join us as we work to make Escambia County a Safe Kid Zone for all its most important assets, the children.

We are asking the community to join us for as we kick-off this life saving initiative.
